In Spring 2015, Shodor and NCSA will host the second year of the Blue Waters Student Internship Program (http://shodor.org/petascale/participation/internships, https://bluewaters.ncsa.illinois.edu/internships). As part of this program, undergraduate and graduate students will participate in a two-week, intensive Petascale Institute designed to teach the effective application of Blue Waters for problems in science, mathematics, and engineering. During the institute, instructors will provide guided, hands-on tutorials, and students will practice using real examples running on the Blue Waters architecture. After the institute, students will use their newly-acquired skills and knowledge in one-year research projects in petascale computing, matched with faculty mentors at accredited, degree-granting institutions. This proposal details the requirements for access to Blue Waters for the teaching staff and program administrators at Shodor during the year-long program. Each mentor/intern project will submit a separate allocation proposal for their one-year projects once we accept them to the program.
