The current allocation is an extension to the previous allocation, which was used to run (extreme benchmarking) for key computational fluid dynamics (CFD) on Blue Waters. These CFD codes are of high interest to the partners of the Private Sector Program (PSP) at NCSA.

The first phase of the “benchmarking” project started in the first quarter of 2014 by benchmarking Ansys-Fluent which is a popular commercial CFD code.

The project was carried out in close collaboration between the PSP-CFD Lead (Ahmed Taha), Ansys, and Cray. So far, Ansys-Fluent scaled to 20,000 cores for the first time ever. With further time on Blue Waters, we plan to explore further the scaling limits of the code.
