Usage Details
Mark Straka, Edward Bensman, Ashish SharmaDecision-makers and stakeholders require long-term high-resolution climatological data for planning and enhanced preparedness against the socioeconomic and ecological effects of hydroclimatic extreme events (extreme precipitation, temperature, wind). With changing climate, observed extremes appear to be increasing in intensity and variability. Currently available climate model outputs and observations do not provide climate data that accurately captures local-scale climatic variability and extremes. To fill this need, we focus on producing long-term high-resolution climate model simulations over the Midwest United States, a region that is home to roughly 66 million people and thousands of native plant and animal species, one of the world’s largest freshwater ecosystems, and one of the world’s most productive agricultural landscapes. Long-term high-resolution climate model simulations require extreme high-performance computing resources such as Blue Waters to complete in a timely manner.
