The aim is to investigate magnetic field generation—dynamo action—and turbulent transport in cylindrical Couette flow, the flow between differentially rotating coaxial cylinders. This configuration shares many features with the astrophysical process of magneto-rotational turbulence in accretion discs. We propose a series of high-resolution numerical simulations to study the types of dynamo action and associated nonlinear turbulent states that are possible in this global geometry. The simulations will provide crucial information to understand the origin of turbulence and enhanced angular momentum transport in astrophysical accretion discs.
