We are developing a computational method to test how different types genes among tortoises vary across the landscape in association with different environmental characteristics.  This approach works to harness very large spatial and genetic datasets, and is widely applicable to other studies, such as how tumors evolve differently in regions of the body, or how some species’ populations may be better adapted to future climate change conditions than others.
