This project is part of the Blue Waters Student Internship Program. The goal of this project is to continue developing a highly parallelized computational approach to predict electromagnetic field distributions in novel photonic microstructures and nanostructures. Metamaterials offer a wide range of applications, and learning more about their optical properties is a promising research area. An investigation of the theoretical framework regarding the electromagnetic properties of metamaterials will be performed, and new terminology may need to be developed to describe predicted phenomena. Simulations and determination of the physical significance will then be carried out.
