Modeling and Simulation of Many-Vehicle Systems and Large-Scale Granular Dynamics Problems
Dan Negrut, University of Wisconsin-Madison
Usage Details
Dan Negrut, Conlain Kelly, Nicholas Olsen, Dylan HatchThe students will focus on two different areas: the Discrete Element Method (DEM) for Granular Materials and Simulation of Many-Vehicle Systems. The students will implement Charm++ and/or MPI to improve the performance of simulation software for their focus area. The Simulation-Based Engineering Lab (SBEL) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison owns a supercomputing cluster called Euler, which will be used for development and smaller scale simulations. Euler, a top five cluster at UWMadison, is a heterogeneous CPU/GPU machine that has several thousands cores and more than 50 GPU cards. Through the knowledge and experience gained during the Blue Waters Student Internship Program, the interns will leverage Blue Waters to run final simulations with larger size, finer resolution, and/or improved accuracy.
