Blue Waters Users:
In December 2019, you received a notification detailing some planned system changes.
Transition summary: /transition
January 14, 2020 is the planned date to effect two changes worth noting:
-
SSH host key change for those using RSA-based access to login nodes
Accessing logins via ssh for some may yield an alarming warning which includes text like:
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
@ WARNING: REMOTE HOST IDENTIFICATION HAS CHANGED! @
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
IT IS POSSIBLE THAT SOMEONE IS DOING SOMETHING NASTY!
Someone could be eavesdropping on you right now (man-in-the-middle attack)!
This is a normal warning to receive when a host key is changed. Please follow the instructions in the FAQ to resolve the warning. Current host key fingerprints are posted there for verification.
-
Filesystem ACL Refresh
Home, Projects, and Scratch directories will no longer allow permission (ACL) broadening by default. A service request may be created for admins to configure a specific ACL or enable self-management. This change may be disruptive to workflows depending on access to another user's folders unless a service request is made. Detailed information on the change and how to request exceptions is available here.

Users in expired projects and/or in projects that have exhausted their allocation may submit jobs to a noalloc queue described in the queue section at /queues-and-scheduling-policies#queues. The noalloc queue will run workloads only when there are idle nodes. Jobs in the noalloc queue are preemptible after 1 hour.

Blue Waters partners;
We are pleased to announce an upgrade to our portal IM chat infrastructure. Over the years some of you have used the portal IM chat to converse with on-call application support staff with favorable results. The need to move off of out-dated software required us to look at newer solutions. We are now using a web client that talks to a Slack instance. We hope those of you who enjoy using the portal IM chat client will continue to do so.
The portal IM chat client can be found by navigating our Contact Us page and clicking on the Support Chat link under the Live Chat section. You will be prompted to sign into the portal before being able to use the live chat.
